Equality message to young people
Teenagers and teachers are set to benefit from the DVD and a booklet aimed at promoting equality and diversity. The booklet and DVD called The Amazing Things about Teens tackles culture, religion, disability and sexuality.
The DVD features West Bromwich hero Blind Dave Heely, talking about his amazing ability to run seven marathons across seven continents in seven days; 13-year-old Ellie Simmonds, Great Britains youngest-ever individual gold medalist in either the Paralympic or Olympic Games and Birmingham-based Joshua Whitehouse a celebrated artist who is autistic.
More than 32,000 booklets, which also include helpful facts, are being distributed to schools, colleges and work-based learning providers across the Black Country. They have been produced by Oldbury-based BCTG (Black Country Training Group) and its peer review and development group together with young people and Black Country Colleges equality and diversity representatives. The project was funded by the Learning & Skills Council.
Husana Bibi, from Tipton, who was one of many young people involved in the production of the booklet, added: ''There is a lot of useful information in it as well as getting young people to think about equality.''
